KARERPASS HOTEL [/] ALOIS KNOLL

In this little picture you actually get to see the hotel backwards (that's the prevailing custom on the Karerpass). 1 From the front it is definitely more beautiful and inviting. Be sure to come: we need a third person at tarot, but above all we also need some tarot cards!

Footnotes

1 Schenker means that most of the hotels in the Karerpass face the mountains, hence photographs with the mountains in the background inevitably show the rears of the hotels.

2 The month at first sight appears to be "VI" (June); however, closer inspection shows that there are two vertical strokes, one shorter than the other, with a small space between them at the bottom. — June would in any event be impossible, since Schenker was still in Vienna at that time teaching and correcting proofs. Moreover, his arrival at the Karerpass Hotel on July 7 appears to mark his first visit there (OJ 6/4, [49], July 9). The present postcard gives evidence of Heinrich and his future wife being alone together, perhaps for the first time. See OJ 6/4, [51] announcing Emil Kornfeld's arrival in Karerpass on August 19.
