The Association was founded in January 1911, and Universal Edition's first in-house periodical, the Musikpädagogische Zeitschrift , was published in conjunction with it. Hans Weisse gave the lecture "What is Counterpoint?" (a typed essay with this title is preserved in the Oster Collection, File 17/3) to the Association in February 1931, shortly before his departure for the USA. Baroness Emma Fischer was secretary to and honorary member of the Association in the 1920s. A parallel organization existed in Switzerland, the Schweizer Musikpädagogenverband, and perhaps others in other countries. OJ 15/16, [70] Handwritten letter from Weisse to Schenker, dated March 21, 1931 Weisse reports to Schenker Furtwängler's confidence about obtaining money from two wealthy people in Berlin to defray the publication costs of Der freie Satz and the analysis of Beethoven’s "Eroica" Symphony, i.e. third volume of Das Meisterwerk in der Musik. Weisse has suggested a sum of 4,000 marks for the former, as a conservative estimate.
