born Aussig on the Elbe (Ústí nad Labem), June 28, 1880; died Auschwitz, after September 6, 1943
Documents associated with this person:
Sister of Jeanette Schenker (née Schiff), thus after 1919 also sister-in-law to Henrich Schenker; wife of Eduard Winternitz.
Emma was the fifth child and third daughter of Wilhelm (Wolf) Schiff and Emilie (née Strasser). Nothing is known of her childhood or education. She married Eduard Wintenitz, and the couple had two children: Wilhelm (1902–43, perished in Auschwitz) and Anna (later Palme, 1904–88). By 1935 the family was living at Steinschönau (Kamenický Šenov), Central Bohemia, Alleestraße 310 (OJ 14/10, [16]).
On April 2, 1938, her younger sister Rosa Weil wrote to Jeanette of Emma: I know you didn’t much like her, but wrongfully so: she is a thoroughly worthwhile person who has constantly and most unselfishly sacrificed herself for all those around her.
There is no known correspondence between Emma or Eduard and Heinrich and Jeanette.
