Catholic musicologist, and translator of St. Augustine and other church fathers. Perl attended Guido Adler's musicological seminar at Vienna University, and was frequent reviewer for Die Musik . His review "Heinrich Schenkers 'Das Meisterwerk in der Musik, Ein Jahrbuch, Bd. III'," Die Musik 23/1 (1930/31), 672f (preserved as OC 2/p. 8) was a source of controversy in the Schenker circle.
