Lisl (Liesl) Schiff
Documents associated with this person:
Daughter of Paul and Anna Schiff, thus niece to Jeanette Schenker.
Nothing is known of Lisl's life other than her mother’s description in 1926: “I would like to protest against Paul’s assertion that our child is in no way different from other children. Above all Lisl is much more mischievous and wilder than other children, and the reverse side of this coin is the most extreme sensibility, thus directly the opposite of the first-named characteristics.” (OJ 14/8, [10], February 1, 1926). In 1925, her mother remarked: “Lisl and I are the gravity that prevents Paul from doing what he ultimately would prefer to do today rather than tomorrow were we not thus. He perhaps feels it less than do I.” (OJ 14/8, [1]).
Since her mother may have been non-Jewish, Lisl herself may not have been considered fully Jewish (both are conspicuous by their absence from the website geni, where an entry is provided for Paul).
No correspondence between Lisl and the Schenkers is known to have existed, other than her inclusion in OJ 14/8, [7], November 18, 1925, from Paul and Anna to Jeanette Schenker.
