Vienna's 13th district, west of the central districts of the city. Hietzing contains the Schönbrunn Palace, gardens, and zoo (Tiergarten), and a substantial part of the Vienna Woods.

Schenker's closest and longest-standing friend, Moriz Violin, lived in Hietzing. at Vienna XIII/2, Sechshauserstraße 128. This occasioned many of Schenker's visits to the district. — Schenker would occasionally end his weekend excursions into the Vienna Woods by way of the district.
